Polly Ester

Japanese name: Pururun /Nyanki San Gou

Animal: Cat

Group: Pizza Cats

Position: Brawler, waitress, chef

English Voice: Sonja Ball

Japanese Voice: Ai Orikasa

Polly is the token female member of the core Pizza Cats team. She's sweet affectionate and caring, but has a fiery temper. This is demonstrated both on and off the battle field, as her temper causes her to become quickly irritated with Speedy and Guido's shenanigans. Though she finds bringing a frying pan to their heads to be a great form of stress relief.

'HULK SMASH!'

Polly is very emotional and romantically minded, in both the Japanese and English versions of the show. In the Japanese version she entered every battle saying 'Despite any kind of darkness, I will show you the power of love!' before blowing a kiss. Many of her attacks have a Heart-shape motif.

Polly is considered tomboyish by her peers, and in some episodes, she endeavours to act more feminine, and beautiful.

One of Polly's ambitions is to be famous. The best known instance of this is when she and Lucile were offered singing contracts and formed the Pointless Sisters pop group (Lovely Mipple in the Japanese version). Sadly, most of her endeavours to hit the lime light usually turn out to be Big Cheese schemes for world domination. When Polly discovers the truth of these occasions, she goes into rage, destroying everything in her path.

'I think I'm gonna cry...'

Polly's signature weapons are her razor sharp claws. However, due to censorship at the time of dubbing, some of the scenes where she fights with her claws were shorted, so as not to frighten children with the image of a ninja crows face after Polly scratches him. As mentioned above, Polly's attacks have a heart motif. Her ninja darts are heart shaped and can be used in several ways. They can simply be thrown like Speedy and Guido's projectiles, but when they land on a crow's chest, the said birds become love struck and fall down. She also used them in the first episode to set the monster of the week on fire.

'Watch out for heartburn!'

Although Polly's magical flute isn't used as a weapon, it does allow her to perform her finisher, the Heart Breaker, which fires a shot of pink energy in the shape of a huge heart. Polly can actually perform a scaled up version of this, in the Supreme Catatonic, using a fish spear. Polly usually pilots the Catatonic, during bigger fights, where more muscle is needed.

Polly is the only Pizza Cat to have removed her helmet during the series. She often removes it when embarking on one of her endeavours towards stardom, where costume is needed.

The origin of her English name is obviously the polyester fabric. In the Japanese version, her name (Pururrun) comes from the purring sounds that cats make. Her alias; Nyanki San Gou translates as Nyanki Number Three. Sango also means 'Coral' in Japanese, possibly referring to her helmet's pink crown. (And is not to be confused with the Sango from Inuyasha.)
